Cosmetic Schmetic!

Posted by: margaret mackintosh on: February 9, 2010

Did you know that cosmetic companies created skin types, such as combination oily and combination dry,  in order to sell expensive, complex  and often unnecessary products to unsuspecting consumers?   Whatever happened to normal skin?

I bet there are a whole lot of you out there with relatively ‘normal skin’, with slight differences mind you,  trying to fix or change it.  You’re spending untold amounts of your hard-earned money on products and programs touted by the advertisers as the latest and/or  best way to achieve beautiful, glowing skin, just like the model on the bottle!  I know because many of my customers have told me their personal stories over the years.  If they were to add up the money they spent on myriad potions and programs to change their skin, they’d have a small but decent RSP.

I really like the old fashioned way; the simpler, the better.  And the closest to Nature, the better!  I don’t know about you, but i’m always happier when every aspect of my life is simple and easy.  No muss, no fuss!  This philosophy is carried into my skin care protocol.

Okay, i am biased, but i believe i am for a good reason, being that i manufacture and use only natural and organic ingredients in my products.

I created Sea Rose Cleanse Lotion, for example, to be a super healthy and effective non-soap facial cleanser, ph balanced, that cleans the skin while lightly moisturizing it at the same time.  Cleansers don’t have to strip the ph/acid mantle of the skin, and they shouldn’t.  But many of them do.  If you’ve used any of them, you know what i mean.  You then have to use lots of moisturizer to correct for the extreme drying effect of the cleanser.

You might prefer a good cleanser such as i described, followed by a really healthy moisturizer, that also provides spf, cell regeneration, essential fatty acids, vitamins, minerals, and more, all without the need for nasty ingredients that carry the potential to harm your health.

I was happy, in a way, to learn a while back that as we age, our skin is more effective at absorbing EFA’s than is our body if we consume the foods that contain them.  Our poor over-worked digestive systems become less efficient at absorption and so the bio-availability is diminished as we age.  Thankfully, our skin will absorb these much needed oils and help us ward off the ‘prune look’.

So, let’s start with the basics; a great cleanser and face cream.  Follow this simple regime every day and be patient, as natural approaches require time to reverse damage done over the years.  Of course, we must remember to live our lives as healthfully as possible.  Your skin will reward you with a much healthier and youthful look!
